La Mamola is a small village which has a bank, chemist, internet/phone kiosk, small restaurants( all of the main ones being on the sea-front so you can sit in the sun all-year round when eating!), weekly market and a selection of bars. It is reminiscent of a bygone era with traditional values making it equally wonderful for families and for those just wanting to get away from it all.
It is situated on the beach and has a mountainous hill behind.
It is about 1 3/4 hours drive from Malaga airport along the N340 motorway which takes you past Nerja(the area then becomes more agricultural with all the green houses growing salad veg etc mainly for the E.U.) past Salobrena, then Motril, which has a huge supermarket as well as being a lovely big town with a cathedral and is also at the base of the main road to Granada, which leads to wonderful drives to the Apulharras and the Sierra Nevada where you can ski in winter.
The coast road has wonderful views and you carry on past Castell de Ferro, which is also a lovely small town until you reach La Mamola by the sea! 16km on from this is Adra , another large town with a good market,too.
Almeria airport is only an hour away with both Easy-jet and Ryan-Air flying there from Stansted,also B.A. flies from Gatwick.This is probably the most direct way to get there as it is motorway most of the way.
Granada airport is just over an hour away and Ryan-Air flies there too from Stansted, there are also flights from Liverpool.
